BriSCA F2 DRIVERS AT NEC
Here are the profiles of the BriSCA F2 drivers who
will take part in all the Live Action Arena shows being held as part of the 2014 Autosport International at the
NEC, Birmingham on Saturday 11th January and Sunday 12th January.
Thanks to Barry Weatherhead for the photographs.
3 Liam Rennie
The Scottish 17 year old burst on to the scene
in 2013 and jumped from white top to superstar and with it swept to
the Novice of the Year title. He also qualified for the World
Championship at his first attempt and is one of the sport’s
7 Gordon Moodie
Gordon is a BriSCA F2 icon, having won
everything there is to win at least once and is now synonymous with
the National Points Championship silver roof, which he won for the
eighth time in 2013. Maybe loved and loathed in equal measures but
38 Dave Polley
Dave is one of BriSCA F2 Stock Car racing’s
more controversial characters, and has even been likened to a
pantomime villain. But the fact that he is current English Open
Champion and a former British and European Champion suggests he
knows how to race, and win big.
100 George MacMillan Jnr
If luck was on his side just a wee bit more,
George would be celebrated as title winner, especially having come
so close to winning the World Championship in 2013. For all that
though, he remains one of the most under-rated drivers, and when his
luck does turn, it will land him something big.
488 Liam Bentham
Like many before and after him he is from a
Stock Car racing family, Liam is an up and coming all round star and
is competetent and at home on both the tarmac and shale tracks and
not afraid to put in the miles to race from his Lancashire base.
676 Neil Hooper
Neil bounced back from illness to be one of
the drivers who so nearly won the classic World Championship, staged
on his home track of Taunton. A former European and English Open
Champion, Neil remains one of the top stars in the country and
particularly in the southwest.
783 James Rygor
The reigning World Champion in BriSCA F2, a
title he achieved by grabbing the win in that sprint to the flag,
all in what was only his fifth season in the sport having previous
competed in Karting. Despite his victory being a shock to some, he
is the current top ranked driver in his native southwest.
798 Mark Sargent
Mark has now been racing
long enough (easily!) to be classed as a veteran, but he prefers the
term “legend”. His won racing takes a bit of a back seat now owing
his son Finn’s Ministox career, but ‘Sarg’ has a new for 2014 car in
the show, and loves being part of the Indoor Arena action.
823 Sam Wagner
Sam is one of the leading all-rounders in
BriSCA F2, winning on both the tarmac and the shale and is one who
can rise to the occasion of a big race or title, where he is often
at the forefront. A leading driver from the northeast of England,
another region steeped in Stock Car history.
886 Chris Bradbury
Chris is another whose name is now very well
established in BriSCA F2, a great all-rounder winning races on both
surfaces and varying sizes of tracks and also now a regular here in
the Live Action Arena. He was very unlucky to fall ill on the eve of
the World Final on his favourite track, but with the pressure off
(slightly) what will 2014 bring?
968 Micky Brennan
Micky is a double World Champion having won
the title in 2009 and 2012 and although luck eluded him in his title
defence, he far from had gold roof (or ‘number 1’) syndrome as he
took six feature race wins in the 2013 season. He still has plenty
of years and thus further success left in him.
977 Dave Massey
It is probably fair to say that Dave is not a
household name in BriSCA F2 circles, but he is the current World of
Shale Champion, a title he won in a destructive at Mildenhall. He is
a long serving driver and will relish the chance of putting on a
show for everyone in the Live Action Arena.
